This piece is part of deBláca’s 1916 Easter Lily Collection.
2016 marks the centenary of the 1916 Easter Rising, a key moment on Ireland’s path to independence. Celebrate the 1916 Centenary with this silver Easter Lilly, inspired by the badge worn at Easter in remembrance of those who died during or were executed after the 1916 Easter Rising.
The Easter Lilly was first introduced in 1926 by Cumann na mBan, the female branch of the Irish nationalist movement. Proceeds from the sale of the badge went to the Irish Republican Prisoners’s Dependents Fund. Traditionally, they were sold outside church gates on Easter Sunday and worn at Republican commemorations.
