$ 34

Dúinn Design’s pattern for this apron is inspired by one of Ireland’s great myths and legends – the story of Queen Meabhs brown bull. The brown bull features Queen Meabh of Connacht who desires to have a bull to match that of her rival Aihill. A battle pursues to capture this bull which is in the province of Ulster, and famously Cuchulainn is forced to kill his best friend Ferdia. Queen Meabh does manage to brng the brown bull “donn cuailnge” back to Connacht where he fights Aihill’s bull to death. The brown bull is badly wouded and wanders around Ireland where many places are named after him before wandering back to Cooley where he dies of exhaustion. It is a story about the futility of war and the worthlessness of possessions.
